Norway Reaffirms Commitment to Two-State Solution in Response to WED Communication

In response to a communication from the World Embassy Desk (WED), the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a communication dated 17 April 2024, expressing appreciation for the WED’s perspective on the ongoing Middle East crisis.

Norway reaffirmed its firm commitment to a two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Quoting Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, the letter stressed that Palestinian statehood is an inalienable right and essential for regional stability, while also underlining that Israel’s security guarantees must be ensured.

The letter highlighted Norway’s role as Chair of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) and its ongoing efforts to strengthen the Palestinian Authority and its institutions. Norway reiterated its readiness to assist in the transfer of taxes and levies collected by Israel on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, emphasizing that legitimate and credible Palestinian institutions are crucial for future governance over both Gaza and the West Bank.
