Austria Responds to WED Secretary-General, Reaffirms Support for ICC and International Law

In a letter addressed to the Secretary-General of the World Embassy Desk (WED), dated 7 May 2025, the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria reaffirmed its strong commitment to international law and accountability for international crimes.

Austria underlined that all States Parties to the Rome Statute, including Hungary, are obligated to execute arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC). The Austrian government stated that it has consistently expressed this position within the EU, in bilateral contacts, and publicly.

Furthermore, Austria clarified that Austrian airspace has not been used by any aircraft transporting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or any other individual subject to an ICC arrest warrant.

The Ministry assured the WED that Austria will continue to actively advocate for an independent, impartial, and effective ICC, reinforcing its stance as a strong supporter of international justice and the rule of law.
