WED Condemns Detention of UN Personnel in Yemen

he World Embassy Desk (WED) has issued a statement condemning the detention of United Nations personnel by Houthi authorities in Sanaa. WED emphasized that targeting humanitarian and international staff is a clear violation of international law, including the Geneva Conventions and the 1994 Convention on the Safety of UN and Associated Personnel.

Acknowledging the heightened tensions following recent Israeli airstrikes in Yemen, WED underscored that the protection of civilians and international organization personnel are inseparable obligations. Undermining either only increases civilian suffering.

WED calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained staff and urges all parties to recommit to respecting international law.
