WED Calls on the United States to Uphold International Law and Global Stability

The World Embassy Desk expresses its deep concern over reports that the United States has authorized covert operations by the CIA in the territory of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Such actions, if confirmed, constitute a serious violation of international law and the sovereignty of a Member State of the United Nations.

As one of the principal world powers and a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, the United States bears a special responsibility to uphold the principles of the UN Charter, respect state sovereignty, and act in the interest of global peace and stability.

The WED therefore calls upon the United States to refrain from any acts that may lead to further destabilization or conflict, and instead to demonstrate leadership by promoting lawful and peaceful means of resolving disputes in accordance with international law.
