On the Principle of Non-Interference and Respect for Sovereignty in Relation to Recent Developments in Iran

The World Embassy Desk expresses its concern regarding reports of external involvement in the recent developments within the Islamic Republic of Iran.

WED reiterates its principled position that respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of States constitutes a fundamental pillar of the international legal order. External interference in the internal affairs of a State, as well as the use or threat of force in international relations, is incompatible with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

WED emphasizes that developments within Iran must be addressed by the Iranian people themselves, through lawful and peaceful means, free from external pressure, coercion, or destabilizing actions. Actions that may be perceived as interference risk escalation, undermine regional stability, and weaken the norms of international law designed to preserve peaceful relations among States.

The World Embassy Desk therefore calls upon all actors to exercise restraint, to refrain from any form of interference in the internal affairs of States, and to reaffirm their commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law as the sole legitimate means for addressing international concerns.
