WED Calls for Enforcement and Full Respect of the Ceasefire in Gaza
The World Embassy Desk (WED) expresses its grave concern regarding the continued military operations by Israel in Gaza and the ongoing violations of ceasefire understandings. The persistence of large-scale attacks, the targeting of civilian infrastructure, and the severe restrictions on humanitarian access raise serious concerns under international humanitarian law.
WED recalls that all parties to an armed conflict are bound by the principles of distinction, proportionality, and necessity under the Geneva Conventions. Civilians and civilian objects must never be the object of attack. Collective punishment, forced displacement, and the obstruction of humanitarian relief are prohibited under international law.
The continuation of hostilities despite ceasefire commitments undermines diplomatic efforts, exacerbates human suffering, and threatens broader regional stability. Respect for agreed ceasefire arrangements is not optional, it is a legal and moral obligation.
Sustainable peace can only be achieved through adherence to international law, meaningful diplomacy, and respect for the inherent dignity and rights of all people in the region.
The World Embassy Desk remains committed to the protection of civilians and the promotion of lawful, peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with the UN Charter.
