Statement on the Reported Attack on Civilian Aviation in Yemen of 13 July 2026

The World Embassy Desk (WED) has taken note with profound concern of the attack on civilian aviation in Yemen of 13 July 2026 and is closely monitoring the developments surrounding this serious incident.

Any incident involving civilian aircraft is a matter of the utmost international concern. The protection of civilian aviation constitutes a fundamental principle of international law and is indispensable to the preservation of international peace, regional stability, and the safety of innocent civilians.

WED has received intelligence from multiple independent sources indicating the possible involvement of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in relation to the incident. While the precise facts remain subject to further verification, the information currently available to WED is of such a nature that it warrants serious international attention and an independent, impartial investigation into any potential external involvement.

Irrespective of who may ultimately be responsible, WED unequivocally condemns every attack directed against civilian aviation. No political, military, strategic, or security consideration can justify actions that deliberately or foreseeably place civilian passengers, flight crews, airport personnel, or persons on the ground at risk of death or serious injury.

Should the authorities in Yemen consider that their sovereignty, territorial integrity, or national security has been violated, or should they believe that particular aircraft are not entitled to enter or land within Yemeni territory, international law provides clear legal and diplomatic mechanisms through which such concerns must be pursued. The use of force against civilian aviation cannot constitute the appropriate first response where peaceful diplomatic avenues remain available.

WED further emphasizes that the involvement of third States, whether directly or indirectly, militarily, politically, logistically, or through intelligence support, will neither resolve the underlying issues nor contribute to lasting peace and stability in Yemen. On the contrary, such involvement risks further internationalizing the conflict, increasing regional instability, undermining diplomatic efforts, and prolonging the suffering of the civilian population.

The World Embassy Desk therefore calls upon all parties, as well as any States that may be involved in the current developments, to exercise maximum restraint, fully respect international law, including international humanitarian law and the international legal framework governing civil aviation, and to pursue dialogue and diplomacy as the only sustainable path towards peace and regional stability.
